Works for me.....

I have owned this reciever since Nov 2005 and consider it to have a very good price to performance ratio.

While I can't comment on the amplifier section (I feed the main pre-amp outs to other amps in a mainly 2 channel system), the sound quality is quite good to my ears. Others I'm sure will disagree and agree. I believe the HTR-5860 is the same as the RX-V657 which for the last year or so has been getting great press. Here's a link to my system:

Don't know what the BB discout is, but shop around. There are reputable web dealers that are selling it for more than 20% lower than the current BB sale price.

It is now on sale at BB for $399. That is a great price...$100 off...
I am having second thoughts about the price range and am thinking I will probably be better off saving until I can afford something in the $600 range.

I have owned this receiver for about 6 months and I am happy with the purchase. You can get it online from authorized dealers for about $300. Don't mess with BB unless they can match that price.
If you are willing to spend $500 or more, you might consider a refurbished RX-V2500 model from ubid for more power and features, but for $300, the 5860 is tough to beat.

Good advice...

Very solid advice from jcPanny. I'm one that picked up a refurbished RX-V2500 from uBid for about $470 shipped. I've only had it for a few weeks now, but from what I've been able to listen to, this is an impressive unit for the money... -TD
