First off, what is LFE? Secondly how can I properly configure it with my system? Thirdly are there any tweaks you guy's recommend with this reciever?

My system includes:

Yamaha HTR-5860
Bic Acoustech Floor, center, and surrounds
Klipsch 12" Synergy sub 600 watt

Thank you in advance, and if there are any links out there where I could possibly get more info could you please help?

Also I have the option of setting the LFE from 40hz-200hz. Could I get more explanation on this? I did search up LFE and understand it as being the lower frequency channel. So I guess the question is why do I have the option of going from 40hz-200hz and what affect will this have over my general listening experience?

LFE is the "Low Frequency Effects" channel of a 5.1 (or similar) soundtrack. It is the ".1" portion, which is a discrete channel of bass only.

You should probably use a line level (RCA) connector between the subwoofer output of your receiver and the line level input of your subwoofer. Set the crossover in the subwoofer to "bypass", or if there is no "bypass", then set the crossover as high as you can. Start with the level control on the subwoofer about half way up, and the volume on the receiver down low. You will need to adjust the subwoofer volume with its level control to match the sound level that comes out of your speakers.

Something like the Sound and Vision calibration disc would help you adjust both the audio and the video; it retails for about $20.

Use YPAO to adjust the audio, but double check the distances and the crossover settings, as well as whether it "thinks" your main speakers are "large" or "small". If your speakers cannot reproduce very deep bass, they should be set to "small". The crossover should be above the bottom end of the main speakers, but hopefully you can set it at about 80 Hz or lower.

Make sure you carefully read the manual for your receiver, and do what it says for adjusting things, particularly if you don't buy a test disc such as the one suggested above.

For speaker placement, visit Dolby's website.

All of the LFE should be sent to the subwoofer no matter what you set for the crossover. When you set your other speakers to "small", the crossover setting determines what frequencies in the other channels are redirected to the subwoofer. Generally speaking, you want to get this to 80 Hz or lower, but if your main speakers only went down to 100 Hz, you would need to set it at least as high as 100 Hz in order to get all of the sound at an appropriate level. And generally speaking, you do want to set all of your speakers to "small", unless they can reproduce bass as low as your subwoofer can.
