Does anyone have information on the performance of the Yamaha HTR-5790 receiver? Do you have any recommendations as to what equipment would work well with it; i.e. speakers, cd player, subwoofer?

Thanks.

Hi
I have the RXV 1400 and the HTR 5790 sitting here as we speak
The only difference between the two are the RXV 1400 has 3 more DSP's
It has a hinged door on the front and it has different zone 2 configuration
other than that they are identical Board layout,DSP processor AMP and
Power supply are the same. This is the DVD player I would wait for
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/DVS5770.htm This DVD player will be the best bang for the buck this summer It should start shipping Mid July and is Identical to the much anticipated S-1500

Hope this helps

I have the HTR 5790 at home now. It is a wonderful home theater receiver.

I have added the HSU VT2 subwoofer to it. Performance is execellent.

I have set up 7.1 speakers, running the Prologic IIx mode. Surround sound is about as good as it gets.

DSP modes work well for creating the simulated Movie theater acoustics in Spectacle mode, prefer Adventure mode.

Home sound now exceeds the local Movie Theater.

Also have the Sony 50 inch LCD projector and High Definitition receiver from Directv. Home theater totally complete now.

Looks like the dvd player has the same specs as the new Pioneer DV-578A. And, the Pioneer's retail price is $250 cheaper.

The Pioneer is not in the same league as the S-1500 or the 5770
It is a cheaper version of the DV-563A The 563A was the entry level universal player and it performed like a entry level player The video was horrible with this player and it had sever bass management problems with DVD-A and SACD Mainly it had none and early reports of the 578 do not indicate that it is better

The S-1500 will have Faroudja Video processing, Bass Management
much better Video DAC's and share much of the same as the as technology as the S2300 here is a quick overview of the S1500
DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD playback
NTSC/PAL Progressive Scan
NTSC/PAL conversion
Faroudja DCDi processing
CD upsampling (176.4 kHz)
108MHz/12-bit video DAC
192kHz/24-bit audio DAC
Audio Direct
MP3 navigation display
MP3 fast forward/rewind/special playback
Gold-Plated terminals for all pin jacks
Optical and Coaxial Digital Outputs
Aluminum front panel
The DVD-S1500 provides an on-screen display with clearly understandable On-Screen Menu Icons. It's easy to select and adjust and desired function with the remote control.

The DVD-S1500 gives you numerous ways to enjoy your discs. You can program tracks in the order you want, use Shuffle Play to play them randomly, repeat them in a variety of ways, freeze any frame, and zoom the images to three different sizes. There's also a Resume Play mode with a 5-disc memory.

Well, great. If I had the money, i'd buy the Yamaha. But, I don't, so, I just got the 563-A today for $100. And, I completely disagree with your statement, about the video being "horrible". It looks good to me.

Hi
If you purchased the 563A for $100 that is a good deal It is an ok player
Its video performance is less than stellar but will be ok if you have a smaller screen that does not magnify the flaws Making a direct comparison between it and the up coming Yamaha S-1500/5770 is a stretch there is a huge gap between the two players
Cheers

I have a meddium level hook up four Polk RTI4 speakers, csi3 front and psw303 sub and they working out fine with yami set-up. My friends and neighbors all tell that sound is better than in movie theaters. YOu be the judge. I am happy with this set up. THere is one another reciever outthere that I would get it's Denon 3805, however possibly some other time

Has anyone had any success in using the internal amp for Zone 2 output and source selection. I have been trying all options with no success. The manaul says taht I should see Zone 2 & Zone 3 in the Select window on the remote but I thik that is only if you are using the Pre amp outs and controling another amp from the 5790 remote. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info on the 5770 DVD player. But why in the world isn't there a HDMI or DVI output on this thing? I think these high end players spend to much time in development and miss important features like DVI or HDMI out. For that matter all of the new receivers should have a DVI or HDMI out, a simple thing to do ( look at all of the new HD TVs).

For your consideration, here is a simple little Samsung with simialr features @ $200 and its out now. Samsung Progressive-Scan DVD Player with HD Upconversion via DVI - Silver Model: DVD-HD841

Plays DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-DA, CD-R/RW, SVCD, SACD formats, as well as MP3-, WMA- and JPEG-encoded CDs
EZ View letter-box eliminator allows easy 1-touch selection from several DVD formats to fill your TV screen
Built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders
6-channel analog audio outputs for SACD, DVD-Audio, Dolby Digital and DTS playback to amplified audio systems with compatible multichannel connectivity
DVI video output eliminates video quality loss that results from analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversions
10-bit/27MHz video digital-to-analog converter
24-bit/192kHz audio digital-to-analog converter 10-second instant replay/instant skip function Picture zoom function DVI, component video, S-video and composite video outputs; optical and coaxial digital audio outputs; RCA analog audio outputs Universal remote

setting up Yamaha zone 2 amp

Look for zone 2 set - zone 2 amplifier in your manual. I'm assuming it's similar to rxv1400. I had to play around when I first got mine, but it works great once you're used to it. In the RXV 1400 manual, it's page 57 (manual set up: options, according to contents portion of this manual). Once you've turned on zone 2 amp, you can use the remote to select zone 2 and the input desired.

This isn't what I'd call user friendly in that most folks won't figure it out without using the manual. Consistent with many multifunction controls you see these days. None work the same and way too complex for the concept "intuitive" to apply.
