I hear you Pat. It took me a very log time to find the tweeters for my over 20 years old speakers, and when I did find them, they wanted $240 or $250 for each. Then the guy said, he'll give me a deal at $220 a piece. I finally get them (the first pair at $440), and then later on, when I blew them again, I got them at $200 each. And I even blew them a third time!
They are unique, as they are buit-in with a special contour made of special material, and built in Canada in house, specially made for my speakers. No OEM here. I'm sure they cost less to the manufacturer, but they are that special; made with very fine textile cotton, and with 4 openings for the ferro fluid. They are the extra wide dispersion type, with a very special surround, similar to Focal-JMLab tweeters (design).
So, yes, I did look for a very long time, trying to get the best deal possible.
I even try to get a used pair of the same speakers for the tweeters only!
Dynaudio make some tweeters that retails for about $1,000 each!
