Im considering a home theater system for my room and when at college the dorm room. Was considering something in the $200-300 range just to add a decent boost to the tv as its speakers suck, but the idea of a better system is being dwelled on. My younger brother runs Harford Sound if any of you have heard of it, so he knows what he's doing. I drug him along with me to best buy to look at options and what I should expect for whatever I want to spend. This was one of the fancier setups at best buy and of course it drew me in. Its the sound im looking for, great sounding 5.1 with a subwoofer that doesnt suck. He brought along his db meter and we got up to 96 in the store, could have pushed it more though, no distortion. At $500 its definitely a good chunk of change for a college student, but it seems it would be one of those last you for years and years kind of systems since it sounds so good, no need to upgrade for a while.

Couple questions. Will this actually last me for years and years or would the formats it supports become worthless in a couple years?

Of the 2 reviews i've found they say its not quite top of the line, its good for a bedroom/dorm room, but its the best for that price to do a room of that size. I dont plan on using it in a big room. One review mentions it only has essential A/V inputs. I'd like to use a dvd player with whatever system I get OR have 1 built in, ability to plug in game systems and my computer is also required. Dont need that many inputs, so is this system good for just that stuff?

Any negatives about the system from experience or the specs? It sure did sound good in the store, though a lot of the other systems had all the speakers in front of you so you couldnt experience the 5.1 effect. BH Photo Video has it for $400 shipped (if you let them email you the price) but S&H is $50.

Any recommendations on other systems need to be under $500, the less the better of course.

thanks!
Jeremy
