Anyone have direct comparison experience? I have the opportunity to buy them both at the same price. I know the 1500 has the DCDi deinterlacer which seems to give it the advantage, but since the s657 is newer (I think?), I thought maybe it could have been improved in other areas. Advice welcome!

I'm relatively sure you've looked at this but here goes anyway.

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/Detail.html?compitem1=&compitem2=200088&compitem3=200087&CTID=5001800&VNM=LIVE&comp_items=200087&comp_items=200088&B_compare.x=34&B_compare.y=5

The DAC specs on the 657 are an obvious misprint. Looks like the 657 plays more formats, most importantly, if it matters at all DivX.

For the price the 657 looks like a bargain over the 1500. The only thing that throws me is the weight difference.

Does Buckeye's weight fetish;) work for DVD players?
