Does anybody have any expereince with this universal player. I would like to know how it compares to the DVD-S2300? Also, does it do bass management or is the at limited to the higher model.

I saw it at the home entertainment show in NYC last weekend. Unfortunately, it was not being played. I discussed it with a Yamaha rep though. He said that they tried to get it as close to the 2300 in performance at a price point. To do so, it has a lesser power supply and transport. It also lacks a RS232 port. It is quite thin and will cost about $400. He also state that the 2300 will be replaced by a new model in October.

Yamaha Dvd S1500

Hi all,

I have been investigating the DVD S1500 Yamaha Universal player as I am upgrading my DVD player in a couple of weeks.

Here is the link to download the manual for the Yamaha DVD S1500 Universal player.
The link for manual

It has Chroma Delay for everyone that is connecting to their display with component video connection.
The chroma (color) and luminance (brightness) signals are not synchronized. The Chroma Delay setting allows you to adjust the advance delay of the chroma signal to yield a perfectly clear picture. This function is available for signals output from COMPONENT VIDEO OUT only. Choices: –3 to +3 Initial setting: 0

As I don't have a TV with DVI, Chroma delay may help me wring that little bit extra I'm always looking for, out of my set.

Also, the unit has bass management as follows:
Cut off frequency adjustment for a subwoofer. Choices: +60, +80, +100, +120 (Hz) Initial setting: +120 (Hz)
Slope Filter slope adjustment for a subwoofer. Choices: +12, +18, +24 (dB/oct) Initial setting: +12 (dB/oct)
I belive this applies to the SACD when output through the multi out and is a highly desirable feature according to other forums I have read.

Analogue output as below is how you would connect to current receiver to enjoy SACD:
Multi-channel: Select this setting when using a multichannel AV receiver with 6-ch discrete inputs. The multichannel audio signals those of like DVD-Audio, DVDVideo, and SA-CD are output from the respective 6-ch discrete output jacks. In this mode, this unit will perform DTS decoding, Dolby Digital 5.1-channel decoding, or MPEG Multichannel decoding when applicable, and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding on 2-ch sound tracks except for SA-CD.

The fact that it will apply Dolby Pro Logic II to a stereo source and output it over the Analogue 6-ch out appeals to me as I purchased my receiver just before DPLII came out!

As previous if there is a benchmark test of this unit that anyone has seen, please post a link.

The above info is from the manual.
Looks like a good unit although does not have bass management on DVD Audio that I could see.
