Yamaha DVD-C950 - Panel Display is all Dashes

I have a Yamaha DVD-C950 which works perfectly fine; however, the panel display in front of the DVD player is all dashes all the time. It no longer displays the CD/DVD number, time elapsed, etc. I've tried everything and can't get the dashes to go away. Any advice?

Best thing is to call Yamaha.
Most likely they will suggest you trade it in for a refurb of the same model. (for a charge depending on it's age)
But perhaps you can get more out of them.
It doesn't sound like a simple fix. Sounds like one of the chips that feed the panel have gone bad.
Just for the heck of it, have you tried a lens cleaner?

Try leaving it un-plugged for several days.
