Yamaha DVD-C950 "GOES TO SLEEP??"!!!

Curious to know what you think (or know):

My brand-new Yamaha DVD-C950 goes to "bed" after about 15 minutes of inactivity. Yes, it just goes to sleep.

Also, when connected to the "Switched" in the back of my Yamaha RX-V2600, when I turn on the receiver, the DVD player wakes up for 2 seconds, then goes back to sleep...

Of course, I've set the built-in timer to "off", and the screen saver to "off", so these shouldn't be affecting the unit. The only way to get the puppy to power up is through the power button.

I called up Yamaha and they are saying that this is normal, and a built-in feature of all Yamaha DVD players. This is a bit ridiculous - have you experienced this?

Many thanks!

I've experienced similar with my Pioneer 588A. After five minutes on pause, I get the screensaver. And after fifteen minutes of inactivity, it powers down. I haven't figured out how to disable it, but I've gotten used to it. I guess it's a good thing, but it can be annoying.

cheers,

My Sony has all that but it can be off and the player will stay on forever without going off. Cant have it come on with receiver which sucks.

Hi supervij - I don't think it can be disabled! I think this feature is made for irresponsible people who own plasmas and who tend to fall asleep infront of the TV (and wake up hours later with the CNN logo permanently stamped into their plasma screen...)

Hi shokhead - why can't it come on with the receiver?

I would connect the player to a normal outlet, not the switched outlet. The others are correct. Like most modern electronics, the power doesn't come on after it has been unplugged (or switched).

My Awia DVD player has an auto-off feature as well but it doesn't do it when it's on pause.

If you want one button operation (IE: dvd, TV, receiver switch on, etc.) I would suggest looking into getting a universal remote like one of the Logitech Harmony models. I have the 688 and it has literally replaced five remotes. I can honestly say I haven't touched any of them once since I set up my Harmony.
