Yamaha DVD-C750 standalone quality?

I've heard good things about the Yamaha DVD-C750, but I am curious as to how well it works as a standalone audio player.

I don't need a dvd player, so it will be used purely for music. How well are the controls without a tv hooked up to it?

I need a universal player of some sort, one that doesn't need to be hooked up to a ty to perform well. Is there such a thing? I know a lot of dvd-a players are made to work with a tv menu, but I really don't care for that at all.

I'm looking in the price range of $350 or less, preferably much less as a refurbished somewhere.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

After (and still) owning the Yamaha DVD-C750, I'm 100% sure I'm buying a single disc CD/DVD/universal/whatever player next time. As a CD player it's fine; as a CD changer it's annoying and quirky.

It's very capable overall, but disc changes are slow. Yamaha apparently also refuses to release a firmware upgrade of any kind (search online for various reasons others have found to desire such an upgrade). I wouldn't say it's drowning in bugs, but I've run into a repeatable, predictable lockup with a certain DVD-A.
