Just got the DVD-1700 yesterday. Great video and audio. Problem is that some burnt DVD's wont play. Any other owners with this problem? Other than that its a great player.

Have you tried out the audio for SACD and DVD-A out of the 5.1 analog inputs? I am looking for universal player that has great sound quality out of the 5.1 analog inputs and I have been considering this particular Yamaha...

CD-R, DVD+R, and DVD-R discs have lower reflectivity than commerically pressed discs and not all discs will play in all players. In addition you have to verify whether the player will play DVD+R or DVD-R (or both) discs.

If the player supports the type of DVD you are burning but it won't play successfully, then you will have to try different brands of blanks. The manual for the player may suggest a particular brand that has been tested to play successfully.

I have been looking for info on this player. Can't seem to find much. Looked for it today at Tweeters and they did not have in stock yet. Nor did they have the 2700.

I e-mailed Yamaha today hoping to find out if the DAC's in the 2700 where BurrBrown and if so what model number and also if it had duel laser pickup and they couldn't even answer me, they wrote me that they would send an e-mail to Yamaha Japan to find out.

Yes Yamaha makes crappy player's imo.
I happen to own a 2700 ,and after trying two of them I found out they will have issues with some burnt disc's,and DVD's with extremely superficial scuff's .
I rented a movie, and at one point it started doing it's freezing and skipping thing ,well it turn's out that if you had a microscope, you could actually see where there was a slight scuff mark on it . So I tried my Pioneer player with no issues at all .
I wish I had known that Yamaha buy's there laser's from Toy's are Us!

My 2700 had trouble with a burnt dvd last night,so i tried it in my old Toshiba sd-3800 and it played fine,so today i went back to my dealer with that specific dvd and tried it in a Toshiba hd-a2 and it too couldn't play it,we then tried it in a $75 panasonic player and altough the pictrue was grainy it played flawlessly.

LMAO kinda, ya it amazes me that a DVD player from WalMart for $29 can read a DVD better than $1000 Yami 2700 !
Go figure?
