I'm having problems with playing DTS audio in my system....

I have the Gladiator DVD (with DTS)
have Sony DVD player with DTS
Yamaha 5730 receiver with DTS decoding....

Have bought a Monster digital coax cable...
I can play all audio modes DDPL2 DDPL etc, except DTS
I go in the DVD audio setup on the disk and enable the 5.1 DTS, then the DTS led comes on on the DVD player, I go into the receiver and switch to DVD-auto and it doesnt make any sound, so i switch to DVD-DTS and the dts light turns on the receiver, but still no sound......
Cant figure it out, i phoned BEST BUY and they couldnt tell me anything to help...

Strange. At the bottom of page 23 in the Yamaha manual, it says something to the effect that if digital output of the player has processed the signal in any way, you may not be able to perform DTS decoding.

It sounds like the Sony player might be trying to do the DTS decoding and the receiver won't accept it that way. If there is any way to just have the player output bitstream, that might help

Mort (who's just guessing here)

yes, it sounds like the DVD player is not setup correctly.

What audio options do you have on your player? What model is it

can you play the Dolby Digital track ok, does the Yamaha recognise that and decode it?

cheers

Sounds like you have to tell the DVD player each time you play DTS, or if possible, that may be set as the default audio? Check the DVD player manual.

hmm that is strange. I had a look at your DVD players manual (downloaded online from Sony, model DVP-NS415), i can't see anything that would be cause for trouble.

Just make sure that the 'digital output' is ON
And that there is NO downmixing
and that DTS output is set to ON, the default setting is off for this DVD player, so make sure you double check :)

I would also set the 'track selection' to OFF, as is default
Also make sure the TVS processing is OFF

Leave the Yamaha amp set on 'Auto' for the input of the DVD.

Do you have any other DTS disks? you may want to try to download a small sound demo off HERE specifically something like this DTS MultichannelTest (direct link to a 14MB download) . This will provide an objective test.

hope you sort this out soon, your missing out on some good audio! :)

cheers

Make sure to properly set the Digital out to either Bitstream or PCM, if IIRC it needs to be on PCM.

I too am having difficulties getting my DTS to work. I have an Yamaha RX-V620 with a Yamaha DVD-C920 dvd player. I tried playing Gladiator and U571 and neither one produce any sound. I have swithced the setting in the DVD players set up, and I change the setting on the Yamaha reciever to DTS and tried it in auto. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like you have all the settings correct. No insult intended here... Are you sure about the connection of your digital coax cable? Maybe you could try an optical cable.

I also downloaded the Banf Demo...very funny. Worth the time and to show to friends what future radio will sound like.
