Any good? Step dad has just pulled them out from the loft. Only to go with some Jamo Studio 170's (again, any good?) Got to wait till he orders some cables for the thing before I can get it working :(

I think so... Except HDMI and modern HD audio support it has the basic stuff including probably decent dac and a basic bass management (90hz crossover)
65Wpc rms and these are real watts. Yamaha's amps are usually very good.

I don't know how efficient Jamo are but I would have to guess this pair would be plenty of loud in small to medium sized rooms
Don't spend much on cables. Speaker cables should be 12AWG (14 BWG - Wire Gauge Reference Table )

and a simple interconnects. Here in US monoprice makes good and cheap stuff, I don't know an equivalent in UK

Yeah it's quite an old amp. 65Wpc RMS is good then  Apparently the speakers are really good but I'm going to get a low glass TV stand and place the speakers on top of that while having my amp/PS4/360 underneath with my TV on the wall. Really excited tbh.

Just realized that you are the same kid who's looking to buy 100₤ speakers.... I am curious - is where anything wrong with Jamo?

They're too small for my room yet not big enough. I know, sounds stupid considering I'm after bookshelves.

Basically, the speakers will be going at the end of my bed, however, the speakers are just a little taller than the bed. Therefore, meaning the speaker is then blocked by my mattress/bed. So basically there is no point having them. So I'm getting a smaller table for my electronics to go on (PS4/360/Amp) and the speakers on top with the telly on the wall. If the speakers we're bigger/taller they would be perfect for either side of my desk and it would be fine, but no :(.

You're gonna have a better system then just about anybody else your age!

Enjoy it. I wish I had gotten into the hobby at such a young age.

Yup, 65Wrms isn't super-powerful, but Yammy is more honest with their numbers than a lot of manufacturers. I'm sure this setup will sound pretty good, and you have room to improve as you learn more and gain more $ to put into it.Pe

Perhaps a pair of speaker stands would solve the problem?

Yeah I know, I don't know one person with a decent set of speakers to be honest other than my Stepdad, Uncle and Dad(no one my age). It's a shame really because it'd be good to discuss these kind of things with people I actually know. I hope I carry on and get into it more as I get a better job :). The amp is really strong apparently, my dads is much better though. So jealous :(.

Speaker stands for the jamo's?

If you are on a tight budget. Just build some you could probably do it for $20 at most. Got to the hardware store and buy some wood, screws, paint. Get done stick on rubber or felt pads to set the speaker on to help decouple from the stand.

Not that tight of a budget, I'd rather just wait it out as I bet the sound quality is awful:rolleyes:

Well I have been using some I built 15 years ago and they work great. There is no magic to a speaker stand. Sounds better than your alternative.
