I recently purchased external amps for use with a Marantz SR7010. I may be interested in moving from an AVR to a dedicated processor. My first instinct was a Marantz 8802A since I’m familiar with that line but after researching the performance of the device I don’t think it would really gain me much. I found lab measurements on the 8802A and SNR + distortion was not overwhelmingly impressive. The SNR and distortion together limited the effective resolution to about 14 bits. That’s probably okay for an AVR and movies but I’m not sure I feel that great about it for a processor in its price range. The Yamaha CX-A5100 tested much better in that regard so I am giving serious consideration to it instead. I have reservations about its room correction system in it though. I have a JRiver music server that has DIRAC installed so I can use that for many things and that eliminates issues there but I have a few other source devices that would require using the system in the Yamaha or not using anything.
I know both the Yamaha and Marantz are fine pieces so it's not my intention to start a debate in that regard.
So ….
Is it possible to turn the Yamaha room correction on or off specific to the input? In other words may I turn it off when my JRiver server is selected and leave it on for other source devices without going in to the setup and changing it manually?
