I got my hands on one of these Preamplifiers very cheap, and it sounds excellent. I did some research, and apparently it's very rare, but cost 800 dollars new. If I wanted to sell it, does 300 dollars sound fair? Many sites that google turns up refer to it as an "audiophile amp", so I'm not really sure what a fair price is for it. I set up an eBay auction for it starting at 200, but I'm not sure if I'm being ripped off or whatever. Either way, I don't need it, so I'm trying to sell it. Is this a fair price? Too much? Too little?

I'd show pictures, but I lack sufficient posts (same reason I haven't tried to sell it yet :p)

I think if you get $200 for it you should feel lucky.
I'm sure it was a good pre-amp in it's time, but it's time has passed.

Thanks all, I updated the prices on the auction to reflect the preamp's value.

...I still think it's a good preamp ._. if I had an MX-2 I'd keep it since they'd match rather well, but I need money quite badly.

You obviously didn't take into consideration the serious cosmetic flaws your Yamaha CX-2 has, which detracts from it's value significantly. An "audiophile" isn't going to want to pay $200 or even slightly less than that for a tattered old preamp. An audio nerd, like myself, would be the kind of buyer this piece would attract, but at a staggeringly lower price. I would picture myself being interested in a piece like that in the condition it's presently in for around $50 or so. I'm not telling this to be offensive, but you are wasting eBay fees by setting your sights too high. Put the starting bid really low, no reserve, and you might get a little jingle in your pocket, but it will only be a little.

Nice preamp, but a haggered one. It was a nice find if you got it for a really low price. I might suggest keeping it in case you need it for something, such as a testing preamp or secondary use.
