Yamaha CR640 old system new sub?

hello,
im looking to buy a powered subwoofer for my old system. i have a YAMAHA CR640 RECEIVER. i believe its rated for 75 watts/channel (1980) and eventually i will get a new surround sound system. for now i was thinking to buy the JBL Northridge E250P 12" Powered Subwoofer with 250-Watt Digital Amplifier to help give me the lows i desire, but im not even sure it will work with my system. the receiver doesn't have any sub jacks..just straight speaker jacks....would it be a waste of time and money for now to buy any sub with this old receiver?

Most powered subs allow their use through either the traditional "line level" signal (which uses either a sub/LFE out or pre out) or with a speaker level signal.

I'm not familiar with that sub but if it has speaker terminals on it, you're good to go. Odds are that it does but it doesn't hurt to check before buying.
