Hi Guys. i have been using Yamaha Aventage Rx A 880 for 2 years, have suddenly noticed that the volume overlay spikes up by 0.5 db after movie viewing/music listening say for around half an hour. If the remote is the reason for the cause can the remote be repaired?

Is it you or the remote? Why is the volume overlay being activated? You're pressing the volume or some other button? Or is it that you set the volume at say -20, then a half hour later it's set for -20.5 or -19.5? Is it just the screen gui thing or does the avrs panel match?

The volume overlay goes up, say if it is 60 it becomes 60.5 after half an hour, automatically. it occurs in the AVR as well as the volume overlay on the screen.
i have got to remove the batteries and check if the same happens.
it is not me who is activating the overlay. it happens automatically, that is the concern. have to confirm whether it is the remote.
or could it be some hardware/software defect with the AVR?

Ah, so the overlay just comes on screen randomly and also tics the volume up a notch. Interesting. It only takes a half hour of use before this happens? And it happens each time?

I'd suspect the avr's circuitry/software before the possibility of such random IR commands from the remote myself but who knows. I'd also try a soft reset of the avr (unplug it for a while) and see if the behavior goes away as a first step myself (and maybe consider a full reset)....but testing the remote by removing the batteries should work fine in that regard.

Reminds me of when my brother and I figured out our neighbor's tv was susceptible to a remote we had, their window was just a driveway's width away, and we'd sometimes freak them out :). I notice an indicator light on my avr lights up when I use my disc player's remote....it doesn't do anything but makes me wonder what possible other IR command from elsewhere could do. I remember a neighbor of mine a few doors away would open both our garages, too :) (a radio remote, but....)

Anyways will use the receiver with a spare remote i have and will update about the matter soon.
Have already done a factory reset of the same. Being hopeful....

Seriously, I have no life.
You don't need to remove the batteries- just turn the remote so the emitters are facing into a pillow, couch cushion, put it in another room, etc. It's line of sight, not RF.

How well-vented is the AVR? Is it connected to the network and if so, how do you operate MusicCast? If you don't live alone, do all others have the MusicCast or Yamaha control app(s)? Are you sure they're not messing with you?

If you have a smart phone, just download the yamaha app for it, and as long as the Yamaha is on the network, you should be able to control the avr with your phone to see if it is the remote causing the problems.

Yes Can use the smart phone. But once you are used to the remote, it is definitely a better choice!

Confirmed it is the remote as the overlay never surfaced back once the remote was kept away! Anyways have written to the customer service and am awaiting their reply.
