Hi all. I currently have an older Marantz receiver and my main audio source is an older squeezebox that accesses my music stored on a ReadyNAS NV+ device as well as web radio/streams. the kids broke the remote for the SB, so now I have to to use the clunky web interface, which is pretty slow and overall painful.
I'm now setting up a home theater in another part of the house and I'm considering a multi-zone receiver (one of the Yamaha Aventage models is at the top of the list), and am wondering if I can use the free iphone app to actually select/play music directly from the NAS device as a replacement for the Squeezebox? The yamaha app description says "Input Selection – Use the input selector to select the device you want to enjoy in each zone. Not only that but if you select an internal source you can control the content within these inputs. Control the Tuner, Network and docked iPod content directly with full metadata information on the display."
does this mean I can browse my entire library (on ReadyNAS NV+) from the iphone? if so, does anyone have any experience re the performance I'm likely to get? The NV+ runs Linux and does not have a very powerful CPU.
I'd also welcome any thoughts about other setups that would work for me. bottom line, I just want a simple way to control inputs/volume in a remote zone using the iphone or ipad, and would like a good GUI for the room with the theater setup as well.
Thanks in advance!
