New to the forum and love all the good advise and reading i've been doing lately as i'm in the market for a new receiver as my 10 year old Sony E9000ES is starting to crap out.

My dilema is that newegg is selling the 765 for $330 and the 1020 for $400 and i'm not sure which one is the better deal. I have the 5 channel amp from the E9000NA part of my setup so i could utilize the pre-outs from the yamaha... but the 1020 is current generation.

any thoughts as to which is the wiser investment? I don't plan on doing 3D for a while and want this receiver to last 4 to 5 years or so and i currently only have 3 hdmi devices. Would I get better sound through the pre-outs and my current sony amp at 115 watts per 5 channels... or with the pioneer 1020 being current tech be just as good the yamaha pre-out option?

Any and all thoughts are very much welcome as i have been racking my brain with research on the matter.

thanks
