Yamaha 663 Multi Channel

Hope this isn’t for the ancient history flle.... I am trying to play iTunes WAV audio files from my PC through a digital to 7.1 analog converter to a Yamaha RX-V663 receiver. I am getting output only from the L/R front speakers. I’ve changed the iTunes Playback to Direct Output. I can’t change the Audio Input in Multi Channel to Analog, if that matters?

Hard to do generally. All your converter is doing is converting your 2.0 digital files to 2.0 analog output, it's not an upmixer I'd guess....what is the purpose of this converter otherwise? Upmixing 2.0 to 7.1 sound is something your avr alone is capable of, whether by analog or digital input....

I get 7.1/7.2 output from TV. Really good 7.1/7.2 from sources like Netflix and Amazon Prime. iTunes WAV files puts out 7.1 but it’s somewhat disappointing. Especially the subwoofer (or lack of) output. Why can’t I get Netflix quality 7.1/7.2 output from iTunes through my PC? If the receiver is supposed to do an acceptable job of converting 2.0 to 7.1, why are there external analog input jacks to the Multi Channel input?

I don’t think so. When Multi Channel is selected as the source all of the options disappear.

Streaming content is one thing, where you may be provided some actual 7.1 content to process. Is the Apple music content you're having trouble with natively 7.1 content? Or 2.0? In any case your avr is capable of a variety of ways to upmix the 2.0 content to 7.1 content. Multich pcm input does often limit processing options in an avr as they're more geared for bitstreamed codecs....
