Yamaha 5990 = can I use HDMI ins but use Component Outs

My TV HDMI ports are not functioning properly. Weird issue where PS4 and some HD channels flash in and out every other second. All the other channels play fine
Anyway, my component inputs doesnt have this issue with the channels in question so i am assuming the PS4 wont either.

So my question is whether or not i can connect my PS4 and my DirecTV box to the Yamaha 5990 via HDMI and then connect the Yamaha 5990 to my TV via component cables?

I tried this but the picture isnt going through

figured that would be too easy of a work around
the receiver will upgrade signal to hdmi but wont downgrade even though composite is 1080 resolution connector
