Yamaha 2700 OSD Question...

I just bought a Yammy 2700 (yeay!), but I'm having problems with the OSD. I haven't received my TV yet, but I tried to connect my Dell FP2005 LCD monitor to the receiver via a HDMI->DVI cable but could not get the OSD to display. Does there need to be a content signal to overlay the OSD over, before one can see the OSD?

There was no video signal coming INTO the receiver at the moment (I'm waiting for a cable to be delivered!)

You may be having the same HDMI to DVI problems that have been plagueing me (and many thousands of others I suspect). See my posts under threads .....

Unfortunatelly in this past week no one has added any posts to this problem .. not even Clint or Gene who I invited to throw in the expert knoweldge. Hope some one replies to your thread. :(

Yes my testing (on 2600) has shown that there needs to be a connected display WHICH SENDS THE DISPLAY'S BASIC AND EXTENDED EDID TABLE THRU DDC PIN 7 ON DVI PLUG BACK TO THE 2600; otherwise you get "HDMI ERROR" and "HDCP ERROR" BOTH MESSAGES DISPLAYED ON THE 2600 FRONT PANEL. So you wont see the GUI on your display device. You may? also need a source video signal into the 2700 to activate the 2700 to display a GUI (tested that but cant recall) but that is secondary because as I have said: you wont get a GUI display on your display advise .. you'll get nothing input to it from the 2700.

KEYPOINT: STAY AWAY FROM DVI INPUTTED DISPLAY DEVICES LIKE THE PLAGUE. Even DVI sourced devices (eg Cable Boxes) are frequently trouble with HDMI intermediates like receivers.

Hope u have better responses that me.

Thanks for the info PhantomG!
I decided to do a bit of experimenting on my own, before reading your links, and I found that while the DVI->HDMI did not work from Receiver->Monitor without any input signals, SVIDEO->SVIDEO from Receiver->Monitor DOES in fact work rather well.

I'm going to be majorly pissed off if I find out that the OSD does not appear over an HDMI connection at all!!!

I have ordered an HDMI cable to hook up my screen Receiver->Monitor and I will use the DVI->HDMI for signal input from Computer->Receiver.

Will let you know how that goes.
