Yamaha 2600 - Upscaling Issues

Hello to all.

Just got the 2600 few days back as I have been living without a receiver for the past 3 mths. I have been waiting anxiously for the 2600 to arrive in HK and bought it on the first few days since it landed here. Unfortunately after troubleshooting for 3 days I cannot get the upscaling to work on the 2600 which is my intended aim as I do not want to replace my "component out only" DVD player. I am seeing the dreaded HDMI ERROR HDCP ERROR.

My connection is component out from Denon 2900 to 2600 and 2600 HDMI out to DVI in into Benq 3750. The GUI onscreen display is shown but I can get 480p when playing DVD movies but cannot upscale to 720p or 1080i. I have checked that my Benq is HDCP compliant and I am at least still getting 480p. The HDMI Upscaling options "Through 480p 720p 1080i" are all grayed out. My conversion is set to on. I am not sure where the fault is for the HDCP error.

So far I have replace my DVI-HDMI (same brand) to a HDMI-HDMI with DVI adaptor but still unsuccessful. Also I have tried power the receiver and LCD TV in different squences as well.

Also I observed the following:

My DVI D input on the Benq is a dual link and my DVI jack is a single link. Any issues?

I have set my DVD Player to output both 480i and 480p and the HDMI out from 2600 will always be 480p.

Any comments and advices are most welcome at this stage as you would expect that I am thoroughly disappointed with my highly anticipated receiver.

Regards

I've been there!

I feel your pain mate - I've been through the same scenario (very similar setup to yours) and it's very annoying when you oulay cash for a brand new state of the art receiver only to find that you've got a list of annoyances the length of your arm to iron out before you can just sit back and enjoy! I guess they're packing so much into these things today that you're going to have teething problems.

Anyway, back to the problem at hand. This is at least one that I've found a solution to - hope it helps your situation. I also have a Denon DVD 2900 running component to Yamaha 2600. I then have a DVIGear HDMI 10M SHR cable (great quality according to audioholics) running to my Infocus Screenplay 7205 projector using a HDMI to M1DA adaptor at the projector end. I also lived with the dreaded "HDMI Error - HDCP Error" for the first two weeks - trying many different things and contacting all companies involved. Finally came up with the idea of updating the Projector Firmware (cost another 80 bucks to buy the special infocus only cable to do this) and presto - HDMI is working :) Check to see if there is new Firmware for your projector, as this may have a fix for HDMI synching or something like that.

On a side note - don't expect the sun to be full of light at the other end. I'm in two minds as to which signal is giving me a better picture, as each has it +'s and -'s!

Whilst HDMI is giving me a very noticable crisper, clearer image (and I stress very noticeable), it is also washed out in colour, and I've got no idea why? Looks fine until you to an A B comparison and notice the lack of colour. And for some reason when you use HDMI there is no colour control (confirmed this on DVE Essentials Info). I've fiddled with the Colour Gains etc. but can't seem to replicate the beautiful colour I'm getting via the component cable. Not sure which setup I'll eventually settle on?

Another side note - although I've now got HDMI working - I'm still missing out on one of the whizzbang features they drew me away from the DENON 3806 and towards the Yamaha 2600. Hoping I'll eventually find a solution for this one to! Still can only choose through for upconversion on HDMI. I want to choose 720P or 1080i to better match the projector, and use the newer scaling on the receiver (projector is 2-3 years old now), but alas, these options are greyed out.

Hope you find a fix! I know how your feeling - when something isn't working as it should, you're left wondering whether you've made the right decision. Things just don't seem to work as easy anymore. Like everything in life - we tend to make things way more complicated than they need to be - for the sake of supposed beneficial choice and cometition.

Good Luck :)

Thanks Mate.

My issue is slightly different from you.

I am getting images on my Benq LCD TV and still seeing the HDMI HDCP ERROR on Yamaha front panel. This via component in into 2600 and HDMI->DVI out to the Benq LCD 3750.

The DVD playback is only 480p regardless I feed 2600 with 480i or 480p. And of course I cannot activate HDMI Upscaling. Through 480p 720o and 1080i are all grayed out. Also I can and have set the Upconversion to ON and Component I/P to ON as well.

Connection option.

Since your Denon DVD player can upscale to 720p or 1080i with equal or better quality than the Yamaha Receiver, why not use the DVD to upscale and use component video switching on the receiver (component from Receiver to TV).

Too early!

Alas, I purchased my Denon DVD 2900 1 year too early. It unfortunately did not include the upscaling feature :(
