Yamaha 2600 HDMI to M1DA Screenplay 7205

I can't get my HDMI connection to work between my Yamaha RXV 2600 and Infocus Screenplay 7205 projector. I'm using a good quality 22AWG SHR DVIGear HDMI cable with a HDMI to M1DA adaptor on the projector end.

The projector is definately receiving the signal, as it changes to a black screen and states it is receiving 576P.

On the receiver end though it states HDMI Error HDCP Error

In GUI, it won't allow me to change the upconversion either, it seems stuck on through:confused:

Unfortunately I don't have any components that have HDMI in order to test a straight connection. At present I'm running everything via component, and attempting to upconvert to HDMI.

I've tried Yamaha, and they blame the projector.

I've tried Infocus, and they blame the receiver or cable.

I've tried DVIGear, and they blame receiver/projector communication issue - which I guess is correct!

Anybody else have a similar setup or experience - help would be muchly appreciated, as I really am a little annoyed with my newest upgrade, as without HDMI working it's like a boat with only one paddle, and unfortunately in Australia we don't have the option of taking it back within 30 days - I'm stuck with it whether it works or not!

I'd be inclined to think the fault may lie with InFocus rather than Yamaha. How long is the cable? If possible borrow a different cable and try that and see how you go.What sequence do you turn on the devices(receiver, pj or vice versa?)

On what grounds do you base this inclination?

This Gentleman has been having similar problems hooking up HDMI with a Yamaha RXV2600 receiver. If you read to the end, it is beginning to look like the problem lies with the receiver.

Fixed - kind of anyway!

Finally found out what the problem was.

I updated the firmware on the projector (costly exercise as had to buy a specific Infocus M1DA to DVI + USB cable - $80.00:mad: ), and presto - HDMI is now working!

Only problem I have now is for some reason I can't change the scaling from through to 720P or 1080i, as they are greyed out. Why - I have no idea. Very annoying though as I'm sure the picture would benefit from this!!!! Any ideas?

I must say that in my setup, the HDMI driven picture is way cleaner (and I mean easily noticable) than the Component driven picture! Only problem is it seems to have a high tradeoff - the colours are very muted. And for some reason the colour setting dissappears when using HDMI (DVE Essentials disc does state HDMI connections cannot change colour - doesn't say why though!). Anybody else find their HDMI driven picture lacks colour when compared to the component driven picture? Any idea how one can fix this - I fiddled with the individual colour gains, but I think this is a bit too advanced for my experience!
