yamaha 1600 or denon 3805

Hi

denon 3805 or yamaha 1600???
was wondering which i should get. Both are around the same price range ($660-700). Wanted some take on it. Right now, hdmi is not so important.

Yamaha vs. Denon

The Yamaha 3805 is comparable to the Yamaha RX-V2500. Both have plenty of power and features but do not include HDMI switching like the new models, 3806 and 2600 respectively. With the new models out, you can get good deals on the 3805 and 2500. If you bought the 1600 you would be getting less power and paying extra for the HDMI which you don't need.

I have both- the 2600 (next one up from 1600) and older 3805. I think if one were to discount the HDMI upscaling and switching, the Denon is slightly better to use (easier). i cant tell re sound quality becos I have not heard the Yammy that much yet.

I have the Yamaha 1600 and my folks have a Denon unit, not sure which one off hand, but the Yamaha is way easier to setup and use and it has plenty of power.

Definitely go with the Denon.

People are right to state that the rx-v2500 is the competitor to the avr-3805. Before purchasing the Denon though, consider the rx-v2500 which can be had for cheap from authorized dealers no less. They are eager to clear these out of inventory. I picked one up for $590...
