Which one of these models would you take for your home theater system if you would use it about 50% of the time for watching movies and 50% of the time for listening to music and you would use it with a 5.1 satellite speakers+subwoofer set (a good one-let's say M&K K5s, Energy Take, B&W MT, etc.)?
P.S. Does the THX certification of the Yamaha give it any advantage for my needs?
Any opinion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
Ariel.

Receiver leads

Nice choices. I have a lower model and I'm very happy with it. The 1500 model in perticular, has been found to have a very clean, transparent pre-amp and amp stage. You should be able to find it from an authorized dealer for about $500.

For the HK, check for a refurb model at the Harman Audio store on Ebay. They come from the manufacturer with the full warantee.

Just pick the model with the features you need and the best price. I wouldn't worry too much about the THX. Read a few of the threads on this topic if you are interested.

Let's assume all of these models cost the same

Which one will you choose? I live outside the US and these 3 models cost the same as well as Pioneer 1014/1015 and Onkyo 603 (do you believe the Pioneer and the Onkyo are so expensive here???). Therefore, I have narrowed my search to these 3 models which cost more or less the same (the H/K is a little bit more expensive than the 2 others by a few 10s of dollars). Please tell me what you would take.
Thanks a lot.

It's actually not a matter of what we would take, it comes down to usgae, room layout, speakers and which unit sounds the best to your ears in your environment. Everyone one here can tell you what they would take, but it's based entirely upon their situation.

I got a good offer for the onkyo 702

and now I have the 702, 2805, 1500 and 435 by Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha and H/K offered for about the same price. I will connect these to a 5.1 Energy Take speakers (the new Take series). What receiver will be the best choice? Are there any new important features available in any of those which are not available in the others? Do the new models (703, 2806, 1600, 440) contain any new important features?
Thanks people!

i recently got my first home theater setup and went with the denon 2805 and the energy take speakers (take lcr for center, fps in the front, and take sat's for surround, s10.3 sub) and really like it. try and audition the receiver and speakers together if possible.

Take the 2805. It sounds as good as the 3805, just slightly less powerful and lacks one of two features. HK's are too expensive outside the U.S., and does not sound better than the Denon or Yamaha.

How does the Onkyo 703 sound?

From some checks I have made, the Yamaha 1500 and Denon 2805 seem to be less musical than the Marantz 7500, H/K 435 and Onkyo 703. Onkyo is claimed to be the best built receiver out of all of the others where the Analog part is in a different part from the digital parts, where the power is supplied by "real" high current power suppliers and is also claimed to be the best for movies together with the Yamaha because of its DSP circuits which are the most advanced together with the Yamaha's.
Because of the importance of the lip-sync feature, I will probably have to give up the NAD T763 and take one of these.
I will be happy to hear pros and cons especially about the H/K 435, Marantz 7500 and Onkyo 703 but if you think the 2805 or Yamaha 1500 should definitely be my choice, please let me know as well.
Thanks a lot,
Ariel.

Are you buying your receiver without demoing it? Also What makes you think the the Denon or Yammie are less musical? I'm just curious, is it reviews you read of them? I happen to own a Marantz 8400, and I love it. The 7500 has more options than my 8400, but both receivers lack an EQ. There is a HT EQ but no other kind, and the HT eq is either on or off, no tweaking allowed. That has never presented a problem for me because everything sounds great without any modifications, but there are many circumstances where an EQ could come in handy.

I am going to tell you how I feel about all of the units you mentioned. I think they are all great. There may be some differences in the number of inputs or outputs, and one may have a feature or two the others don't, but in the product range you've picked I think a large part of the decision is Cosmetics and personal taste. I would take that Marantz over the others, but I'm a Marantz owner. Ask the Denon guys what they would take and it's most likely a Denon, same for Yammie, same for Onkyo, and on and on.

You can NOT make a wrong choice with the receivers you've listed IMO. What you need to do is go and take a look/listen to them all. Look at the remotes, the accessories, the appearance of the unit, lift them to get an idea of the weight and build quality. Bring music and movies that you love and are familiar along with you for your demo. Don't listen to the Demo discs the Shops have, they are only using the finest versions of the finest recordings so everything they play should sound good. The only way for you to be sure you got the best return on your dollar possible is to get out and view these guys. If that's not possible try downloading some of the spec sheets and seeing what suits your fancy the best. Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

They are all fine so whichever you can get the best deal on,pull the trigger and do it. Remember, a few watts either way wont make any difference and the auto setup isnt a big enough thing as to sway me either way. i'd rather have another in/output then DSP modes but if thats what you like, thats what Yam are known for. Lip sync, got it on my Denon, never have needed or used it. Onkyo? If you read this forums, you just dont here alot of talk about them much, they've slipped abit in the last few years but i would still have them on my list to LISTEN to. You are going to have them all hooked yo to the same speakers and listen to your own cd's,right?

Since you are new to HT, the auto setup and PEQ features of the Yamaha RX-V1500 might be valuable to you. I am not sure if the other models have similar features.

I've got a Denon 2805 and It's fine. One of my friends has the Yamaha and it's fine too. To be honest, they sound about the same to me. But I'm no audiophile, by far. Get whichever you find cheapest and like the most.

the denon has an Auto Setup & Room EQ Adjust, just plug in the mic and let the receiver take care of the rest...

How much do these models cost in the US (street price) these days?

Yamaha 1500 and 1600
Harman Kardon 435
Denon 2805
Onkyo 703
NAD T763
Marantz 7500
Rotel 1056
I only know the prices in some web stores which I don't rely too much and not all of these models can be found there.
I would be happy to know the prices for which deals can be closed on these models in the US.
Thanks friends.
Ariel.

i picked up the denon 2805 at a local auth dealer a couple weeks ago for $675. i've seen it for less online and i think some sites even sell refurb ones which you may want to consider depending on your budget. i would try and buy from an auth dealer if possible, since it does come with a 2yr warranty.
