Yam 2700 vs Sony 5200

All,
I've got a oversimplified question, but how does the Yamaha 2700 compare with the Sony DA5200ES? I'm in the market to upgrade my receiver and speakers. I originally was only looking at the 2700, (or 1700 but I really like the Network capability,) but a local dealer recommended the Sony. The price seem to be almost equal for both the 5200 and 2700 but on paper the Yam seem to edge out the Sony. I was wondering how the internal components and sound of the two units compare.
Has anyone used both that can compare the sound/video capabilities?

Thanks!
Dave

Apparently the only things the Sony has going for it is it's GUI (Graphic User Interface) and it is probably easier to use than the Yamaha. The Yamaha has a more powerful amplifier and in my opinion Sony doesn't make good a/v receivers, regardless if it is ES or not.

Receiver options

Sony receivers are not very popular around here. I would stick with the Yamaha RX-V2700/1700 or possible a comparable Denon or Pioneer.

I'm not a big Sony fan either. I had a Sony and was relieved when it did not survive a lightning strike. I replaced it with a Yamaha and have been very satisfied. It does not have a GUI but the setup menus are quite easy. I never really figured out that GD Sony. I prefer the Yamaha sound, especially when listening to music. The Straight Stereo mode is quite good when you don't want surround sound.

I'm not a fan of Sony receivers at all. I have a Yamaha 2700 and could not be happier. By the way, Seth, the 2700 has a GUI as well.

I know it does.:D The GUI on the Sony is supposed to be very nice in comparison to other receivers on the market, and it very well may. Fact is Sony isn't good at making audio products and they like to use misleading specs on their amplifiers.
