but do any of y'all know where to find a tube amplifier, stereo or maybe even surround (never heard of those) that can deliver 150-250 watts / channel into 8 ohms?

Lookin to spend some bux are we?! Cuz thats exactly what your going to do, to get a tube amp with that much power.

Check out:
Atmasphere
Mcintosh
Jolida
Antique Sound Labs

They all make tube amps with that much power. A more affordable route would be a hybrid with Tubes in the preamp and SS poweramp. I run a setup like this, The beauty is that you can get the added magic of tubes with still having the cheaper power of SS.

Murder you, Bryan? Why would we do that? You asked a simple question. Hard to disagree with a preference for tubes. :D

Enjoy your find.

i saw someone asking about tube amps a while back, and it turned into a 5 page thread of mayhem and destruction.

Another hybrid solution to consider if your speakers can be bi-amp'd. Use tubes for the high frequency and solid state for the bass. I love the highs and mid-bass with tubes, but not having punchy bass really bothers me.

As long as nobody mentions hearing any differences between amplifiers there wont be any trouble mister :D

All kidding aside what are your plans? there are a ton of tube amps in all price ranges, for the guys here who have experience with tubes it would help all of us make a much better reccomendation if we knew what you are planning, how much your budget is & what other gear would be in the system.

okay, i have a yamaha rx-v757 as a reciever (it has an amp in it, i'm only currently powering 2 speakers, Polk RTi8s, but it's only rated at 100W/channel, and i feel i should be powering it more). also, i think it would sound better with my turntable, a Technics 1200 MK2, and it might sound good with an SACD player (don't have a good one yet. i have one that plays limited SACDs, like stereo, through a L/R outlet.)

i'm also eventually going to add 2 more RTi8s for the surround speakers.

Why do you feel you need more wattage? If you want to go the tube route you really need to find a dealer that will allow you to borrow one for the weekend. I would start with a mid wattage amp around 40-50 watts. The reason being that its at the lower end of the price range and in all reality some speakers are tube friendly and some are not.

the bass and volume, really both, aren't that strong, and the speakers are rated for up to 250 watts, and i'm giving it less than 100.
