I can get the 3900 for about $400 more than the 863. Is it worth the price difference? Is Rhapsody service free?

The RX-V3900 is very nice, but so is the 863... if it were me, and I could afford it I would go with the 3900. It has an extra HDMI input, as well as a nicer amp section, and a graphical OSD, and network capabilites, plus in my opinion it looks a lot nicer. But you may be better served my the RX-V1900 unless you really want networking capabilites.

Thanks for the reply. I am getting stuck on the networking thing. I might want to do that in the future, so I don't want to miss out, but not sure I wanna spend the money. I would give you a thanks if I had one.

If you have an xbox 360 or better yet a PS3, you won't really need the networking feature on your receiver, since you can stream media through those, or even a PC. The only excepiton being internet radio, not sure if you can do that on a 360, but you may be able to with the ps3 since it has a browser.

Thanks. I decided to go with the 863 as I have a PS3 and could do the streaming. The price diff was just too much to justify at this time.

It seems like a good choice and if you eventually add an multichannel external amp to the 863 it can out perform the 3900.

I think you made the right choice, I have a 663 and am very happy with it, it does great for my bedroom, although an extra HDMI input would have been nice.

a 3900 for only $400 more than the 863? I need to shop where you're shopping. I can't see it anywhere online within $8-900.

Local guy said he would match audioholics powerbuy for the 3900 (of course with a lot of other stuff in the same order) versus near retail 863.
