I just purchased a yahama rx-v365 and want to hook up a directv dvr, dvd player, vcr, and a Wii game. The vidio inputs on teh back are labeled
dvd input jack
dtv/cbl input jack
dvr in jack
dvr out jack
monitor out jack
My questions are can I relabel the dtv/cbl jack to vcr and use it and put the Wii in the dvr out jack. I don't know why there is a dvr out jack

Oh ya, you can.

Hi Ten Mile, and Welcome to the Forum. :)

First, Congratulations with your new purchase.

Of course you can do what you say, connect your DVD player into the VCR input,
or any other source component to any source input in the back of your receiver.
It's a free country, isn't it after all? ;)

I don't know if your Yamaha RX-V365 receiver allow you to rename each individual source inputs; if it does, great. If it doesn't, just remember which one is which one. ;) A good memory helps.

The DVR out jack is for recording purpose, you know, just like the VCR.

Cheers,

Bob

Can I use the DVR out as an input to the receiver. The DVRis also the directv reciever so what ever I need to record is processed before the receiver so I would then think that the dvr output would actually be the input to the receiver. Since I am not a young guy anymore this tends to get a little confusing.
Thans for your earlier reply.

The DVR out as an input to your receiver? Are you n*ts? Just kidding.;)
Of course not. It says OUT, so it cannot be IN.:)

Hey listen, your DirecTV receiver as the source, would be connected to your A/V receiver using the outputs from your direcTV going to the inputs of your A/V receiver indicated as DVR in the back of your Yamaha RX-V365.
And the inputs from your direcTV would be going to the outputs of your Yamaha receiver. See, quite easy if you follow the directives to the letter.
* Also, check in your manual for a good description of how to get your sources properly connected to your receiver.

And you are certainly not 90 years old yet, so cool off, you're still very young. :)

Regards,

Bob
