XTZ Sound has just added a dedicated height speaker to their venerable Cinema lineup. They are calling it their S2 height speaker butit has NO “Atmos” moniker. That’s because XTZ didn’t swallow the blue pill and instead opted out of payong the licensing fee to Dolby to use their name. Instead they focused the budget of this product on the quality of the drivers and crossover components rather than a licensing fee and crossover tech that has been proven to be unnecessary to create the illusion of height.

The S2 offers versatile placement options for ceiling or wall mounting or placing on top of companion speakers firing up at the ceiling to call the Transformers on Cybertron.

Is XTZ starting a new trend with reflection type speakers? It's been almost one year since Atmos was announced yet only a handful of manufacturers are licensing the Atmos speaker tech. What gives?

For crying out loud. Might as well buy a JBL 3310 on the cheap with better freq response for surrounds and nail them to the ceiling.

How much does that sorry looking atmos cost. If its priced over $15.00 daylight robbery.

There's a lot of options for using high quality speakers at Atmos/DTS:X/Auro speakers...that's the point. You don't have to (and, perhaps, shouldn't) buy Atmos "branded" speakers. The JBLs are a good option, but are much larger than these, and not a perfect match when used with the rest of the XTZ Cinema system. Now, the price has not been released, but if the component and build quality of these are similar to the rest of the cinema series, you can be sure these are much higher quality than $15 speakers.
