We had a new electronics store open up nearby... HHGreg. It's kinda like an odd BB/CC hybrid. Anyway, they had the new Accoustic Research remotes there. they seemed pretty nice. I've been searching for an RF remote solution for about $300 that has the qualities I want.

This seems close... looks high end and feels just as good as the Harmony ONe in my hand. Of course the guy in the store raved about it.

Opinions? Anyone have it yet? I've had my head in the ground for a few months so if this is old news, just scold me and send me on my way.

Those are re-branded Universal Electronics remotes, some of which are branded as Nevo.

I took a look at one at BB a while back. I can't say I've looked into their funtionallty much, but my first impression was that it was a Harmony 880/870 clone.

Are the worth considering?
IMO, as long as they aren't Harmony, yes. I'm feuding with Harmony again, so I won't recommend theirs, even though they make some good ones. This week proved that they don't give a rat's azz about taking care of customers who have had recurring problems or dealers who are in the position of needing to handle these issues for their customers.

Universal Electronics is one of the largest remote control makers and they make a tremendous number of the OEM remotes we use.

For about $350, it seems you can get a pretty nice rf setup. The remote looks really good to which is one of the things some of the others in the price range have been missing.

I'm gonna head back and give them a second look. I swear, if I have to help my wife turn on the tv one more time, I'm gonna put my foot through it. The cabinet is not conducive at all to IR and everytime she turns it on the TV goes on and the cable doesn't. then she hits power and here we go.

She can do it, but she'd rather make life miserable to prove a point.

I hate pressing buttons to set up remotes, so I use the kind that connect to a PC. Red back-lighting is about the worst color if low light legibility is needed, so those should be avoided (RF-50 by URC). I hate dealing with Harmony but some of their remotes set up easily enough and generally work pretty well. I have a customer with a 6 year old Harmony and I cleaned it out for the second time today because "someone" spilled some kind of drink on it. This guy took 6 months to learn that he needs to point it at the equipment for it to control everything and I haven't had a trouble call in well over a year and a half until recently.

The URC MX-450 may do what you want. The MX-850 WILL do what you want if you add the MRF-260 RF receiver and the URC models that do RF also do IR- either or both. The MRF-260 has two assignable IR ports as well as a set of emitters that can blast a lot of equipment, as long as the pieces are in a position to receive it through their IR receivers.

Here's a link to Parts Express's page with IR repeaters. Zantech has a lot of parts that can be mixed and matched, to the package doesn't need to be what's there. Other brands sell similar pieces, like Proficient and HA. Niles and several other companies buy parts from Zantech with their name on them, so if it looks like Zantech, it is.
