i currently receive directv which also includes xm radio. i have my tv connected to a technics sa-ax720 receiver in order to get an audio when i use my dvd player or vcr. my problem is i can't listen to the xm radio unless the tv set is on. i just want to be able to feed the directv signal into the receiver and bypass the tv but so far i have had no luck. i really don't want to waste energy and put needless hours on the picture tube just to listen to music. any help from you experts out there would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need the Tv to be on!

With DishNetwork and I assume DirecTV is the same I run an HDMI from the satellite receiver ( I suppose you could do RCA left/Right audio also) to the AVR then from the AVR to the TV. You don't need the TV on to play the audio! If you know the XM or Sirrius channel numbers you could also change the music channel without the TV, by directly entering the cahnnel using the satellite remote.

Good Luck!
