Xbox 360 to surround

Like many people, I've been having problems with getting my 360 and receiver to achieve full surround.

I have the component cables hooked up to the TV, and the red and white cables plugged into the back of my LG(#LHT764) system, along with a digital optical cable. Keep in mind, the stereo sound works fine, but for some reason I can't get it to work in full surround. The service rep at LG told me to turn the receiver on AUX, but that just results in me getting stereo via my red and white cables. (note no sound comes out when they aren't plugged in). And I also have my 360 set to digital/5.1... and yes my receiver can get dolby digital. And also, the optical cable does have a small red light at the end so I know that it's not messed up.

I'm really lost as to what I can do now, thanks in advance.

I have an XBOX 360 also. I have a monster component cable plugged into the back of my XBOX 360. It had the blue, green, and red and a little adapter for the digital optical cable. You shouldn't have any composite left and right coming out of the wires only your three component and one digital optical. You need to plug your blue, green and red into your tv and just the digital optical cable into your receiver and it should be in 5.1.

First as grizzlyman suggests unplug the red and white composite cables from your receiver leaving only the optical cable plugged in. That way you’ll know for sure that what your hearing is coming through the optical cable.

Make sure you not only selected AUX for the input but also you also have to tell it to use “optical” as the D.INPUT source, check page 17 of the manual. (I think the D.INPUT not being switched to “OPTICAL” might be the problem).

Select Dolby Digital on the receiver since I don’t think the receiver automatically detects the format, also on page 18 of the manual.

Set the 3D surround effect you want. You should start with “BYPASS” until you have everything working then experiment around to see if you like any of the other effects depending on what you’re listening to.

Also go back and double check that the Xbox 360 is still set to Dolby Digital 5.1. I had mine revert to 2.0 once when the receiver did power up before the Xbox.

Hope this helps,
Dean
