x-ls fronts and which sub?

So I'm picking up a set of x-ls's for my fronts, using some older jbl 2500's as satellites until i want to upgrade them, adding a sub and going without a center until I upgrade to the x-cs.

But which sub?

av123 is holding a very slightly blemished (I think I could cover it with a little sharpie action) black x-sub for me. Price is $159. I know that's about $40 off full price, which is sweet, but I've heard about "chuffing" that can happen with the x-sub. Would you recommend the x-sub at the reduced price, or something like the Hsu STF-1 or something else? I absolutely want to keep the price at/under $200 (though would love to get the $159 price :) ).

I'd really appreciate any recommendations.

You won't likely get a descent sub cheaper than the X-sub, just get it. The cheapest HSU is $300 and it is an 8".

x2 what Seth=L said. You will not find a better sub for that money anywhere, IMO. The smallest HSU (STF-1) is roughly equivalent to that sub, and as mentioned, is 2x the price you'd be getting it for. Hate to say it but the HSU will more likely than not do exactly the same thing with really low material, because even my VTF-2 clearly struggled with really low stuff.

The port noise is not worth another 200 bucks IMO.

I love the X-sub!

What size is your room?

I'd say the room's about 13' x 13'. Something like that. Though it's an apartment that I won't be in more than roughly a year more.

The speakers will be driven by an onkyo tx-sr602.

I am so psyched to get these speakers!!

That thing should literally destroy a 13x13 room! Mine is in a 13x17 room and rocks it hard.
