Just in case you hadn't seen it, Emotiva is offering free shipping this weekend. The LPA-1's replacement, the UPA-7, would run you $649. More expensive, true. The UPA-7 is the same size as the LPA-1, same look, slightly heavier, and with 125W to all seven channels.

I'm not promoting Emotiva (or trying to push you away from an LPA-1), but since you are looking at that brand anyway, I just wanted to mention this weekend's sale. Good luck in your hunt!

Thanks Adam, I know about the sale, but I don't see myself having 7.1 anytime soon. Even when I had a dedicated theatre, I had only a 5.1 system and it was more than enough for me.

Also, I have seen that they are going for around $400 ish plus shipping. Shipping probably won't be more than $50, so it will be around $200 cheaper than the UPA-7. Not that the UPA-7 isn't a good amp, but the LPA-1 is a tried and true and proven amp, I have seen some red lights of death on the XPA series, I would hate for that to happen to me on the UPA-7.

Sounds like you've really done your research, Hutzal! Best of luck in finding that amp. If you haven't already, you might consider contacting Emotiva to see if they have any b-stock of those units. I don't know if they carry any of their previous products like that, though. Thanks for the info on the XPA series.

found one!

Adam,
I am not trying to spread bad work about Emotiva. Just saying on the Emotiva forum, some XPA-5 users are reporting red lights on some of their channels. Not sure of the cause but the XPA channels are dying on some channels that the LPA-1 would have no issue driving...strange eh?

Congratulations!

I certainly didn't think that you were trying to bad-mouth Emotiva. Some designs just have problems. I hadn't done any research on the XPA designs, and I appreciate you giving us that info.
