just watched U 571 from Netflix for the first time with the SVS. We watched it at moderate volume because little guy was sleeping and I was watching with the wife. I was afraid to turn it up any more because the house was rumbling down the street. I cant believe I have never watched that movie before. A great demo movie!

I really liked the movie. The history isn't right (there was a U 571, but the Enigma machine was captured from another sub), but it's close enough for people who accept movie history.

i think it is one of the best surround sound demo movies ever! its got the subtle creaks and moans of the sub going deep and then the rapid fire depth charges.

at the end of the movie they give credit to the different crews who durring the war captured enigma machines. I'm sure historically its off but its still a great movie

History is impossible to get right in a movie usually.

The best WW 2 movies were made long ago anyway.

This is certainly a top 10 demo movie.

I am a fan of WWII movies. This one was OK story wise, not great, but the sound makes it entirely worth it :D I can't believe a HT fan hasn't seen this!?&%? If you ask for demo material, especially for subs, this is always going to be one of those mentioned. I don't think the BD version was as good as I hoped in the LFE department, but I haven't watched it yet with the Oppo.

One of my faves was a Bridge Too Far. That was an all-star cast.

I did enjoy U-571, I guess as much as I could a recent WWII movie.

My favorite WWII movie of all time is "The Enemy Below"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050356/

No CGI here, and the acting is top notch, definitely a must-watch for WWII fans, I haven't had the chance to watch it in a HT, but I imagine the depth-charge explosions would sound pretty awesome!

Thanks I will check that one out I love old war movies. They tend to be more realistic acting wise.

The depth charges alone are worth the price of admission. :D

We rented this last August. It was the LOUDEST movie I have ever played! My wife went berserk during the depth charge scenes. I kept saying "but dear, explosions are SUPPOSED to break your eardrums!" She threatened divorce. I ended up having to take the whole family out to the beach and amusement park the following day just to restore peace in the household. Man, she was PISSED during and after that movie!
The movie was great, but this is NOT a wife-friendly movie.

Sorry to disagree, but my wife likes it very much. We have seen numerous times. She is often in the mood for something loud. ;)

Count yourself among the lucky, because this movie nearly broke our marriage! She thought it was unreasonable to be making that much noise and 'breaking people's eardrums' like that. She was convinced I had turned the volume way up higher than normal. I had not, because I have the levels calibrated and fixed. It's just that this movie contained levels much higher than normal. Our ears were ringing for a while after that movie's explosions. That never happened before with a movie.

Great movie, whenever I want to test out a sub I use that movie.

I need to start watching movies at your place. I would love to hear U571 at your place, along with a lot of other movies.

It was captured by the British as well, not the Americans.

Sounds like we need to employ some dynamic volume sensors in there. Give you a different volume than your family.
