i just found out about bluejeans cables, and i feel like it was a godsend, everyone should know about this stuff...why do most people buy into expensive cables if they do not help and why do stores sell them...next week i am going to take in some cables and change them out, see if they can find differences, i bet not! how many will let them do this test, probably none...

thanks for the help here and before

Man, I think of Blue Jeans as overly expensive cable!

I think they're an expensive cable, but not overly so. The cable does what it's manufacturer claims it does, unlike some other brands, and the price for what it does seems justifiable. That doesn't change the fact that it's still expensive.

Blue Jeans expensive?? That's crazy talk. For what you get, they are certainly not expensive.

Bluejeans Cables is one the best deals on high quality cables anywhere, expensive compared to what brand? These guys use Canare connectors, this is pro-gear stuff, high quality. You get what you pay for without the snake oil.

Yes there are cheaper cables(mono price) for one, but IMO they are not of the same build quality. The cables I have from BJ are excellent and I will continue to buy from them as required:) .

Yep, no snake oil and good quality cable. It's still EXPENSIVE!! You're still shelling out mad cash for what is probably a highly questionable jump in the HT experience.

From all forums and people I've talked to, I have yet to hear of ANYONE who switched cables and told me DEFINITIVELY "WOW, this changed EVERYTHING!!!!111one."
I mean all the bs aside, you're paying a lot of cash for a piece of copper wrapped in shielding. I'm not disputing the quality of the cables. It's just that you have to wonder if a cheaper cable won't do just as good a job when you consider lengths under 10ft.

Mr. E,

It's not about the "WOW!" factor (or the snake oil), the reason they're good is twofold. Any well engineered cable won't "harm" your system, these are well engineered. Component quality: The cables they use are high quality (Belden,Canare, etc.) it takes a bit of money to use high quality materials, the connectors are heavy duty won't fall apart and impart excellent connectivity , the cables can take a beating (especially if you're the type to be constantly changing gear) so, what you're paying for is quality build and quality material....can you buy less expensive cables? of course, but they will cut corners somewhere, all business need to make a profit to survive. Also, BlueJeans will cut to length, terminate and go out of their way to make sure you get what you need. Monster or anyone else that I know of will not do this (especially at the price point you pay at Blue Jeans). That's why so many AV freaks love them, we've been down the "high-end" cable road before and are tired of the BS that comes with the cable companies.:)

As I said, I don't dispute the quality of the cables...and I compltely agree that they won't harm the system. About the only thing good quality cables harm are my wallet.

, the connectors are heavy duty won't fall apart and impart excellent connectivity , the cables can take a beating (especially if you're the type to be constantly changing gear)
My cables, once plugged in, just sit there, doing nothing. They don't move, and I don't plan on switching gear for a LONG time. I don't think a lot of us do that very often anyway, so this is frankly not a very big selling point. So long as you avoid the White Van salesmen and manage to find a medocre quality cable, it's hard for me to imagine that the cable will fall-apart unless you absue it in some way :p

so, what you're paying for is quality build and quality material....can you buy less expensive cables? of course, but they will cut corners somewhere, all business need to make a profit to survive.
And this my friend is where you have to wonder whether paying a premium for twisted braid insert-fancy-poly-whatitsname-material-here sheilding is worth it. And when considering cable runs of under 10 ft, I have to seriously wonder if the resistance/capcitance and all those other characteristics MATTER at all.

As for shielding, hell if you run your signal cables seperately from your power cables and be a little smart with your cable routing, I can't imagine that there'd be any significant gain in interference/signal loss.

Yes, I know I probably ignited the audio purists's flames of wrath, but sometimes this gets a bit ridiculous! :D

Also, BlueJeans will cut to length, terminate and go out of their way to make sure you get what you need. Monster or anyone else that I know of will not do this (especially at the price point you pay at Blue Jeans).
Now this I agree with. This is an extremely handy feature that no one else offers and of course comes with a price-jack. But I find it hard to justify the increase when with a simple wire cutter or boxcutter and a few spades/banana plugs, you can easily measure out and cut your own wires bought from Homedepot for much less and more satisfaction :)
I'm a n00b but I managed to do this with my speaker wires (first time ever owning an HT too!!) without too much difficulty. I'm sure if a fool like myself managed to muddle through this, anyone else can too!

You could make your own interconnects, but it's not always cheaper or a lot faster. I just bought a 6' hdmi cable from Blue Jeans, cost was $21.50. I ordered it late Monday afternoon and it arrived Wednesday morning. I also got a 6' digital optical for $15. Both are pretty affordable in my opinion. And they are well made, fit nice and snug, and look they good too.

Yes, you could go the real cheap route depending on your budget, build your own and save a few pennies, but time to me is more important than saving a few dollars. Consider this: the time it takes me to drive to Home Depot, get the wire, drive to Rat Shack and buy connectors, put up with traffic, parking, cashiers, assemble the cables, make sure I'm happy with the asembly (I'm a big neat FREAK)I'd rather pay a "premium" for a good product, knowing I'm not getting ripped off, and forego the above mentioned nightmare. As for me I'm always tweaking gear, so yes, I need cables that can take a beating.

Yeah I suppose it depends on your needs and abilities and of course budget. I didn't have to sit in traffic or do any of the above. Just order online and Homedepot was real close, so not a big deal.

I also wanted to learn how to do some of the simple stuff on my own...I actually wanted to try to build some interconnects using CAT5 cables since that seemed to be the best interconnect, as well as the cheapest since I have a bunch of those lying around...but that project looked to be too daunting for a first time attempt.

More than anything else though is the satisfaction of building something yourself, rather than just buying pre-fab. I managed to control the lengths much better and saved more than just a few pennys I think :) But hey, I don't have a lot of money to burn to begin with.

There's nothing like the satisfaction of building something and experimenting you just have to weigh certain factors and prioritize. I'm all for DIY and small projects, sometimes you can't fit all into time schedule.:)

For instance right now I'm in between appointments with clients, so I can BS on line!

They will build you a cable at whatever length you want, so how could you do that better? How about no difference....

One small detail too about companies like Blue Jeans - building cables is their business, it is what they do and they do it well. I can look at the cables I have from them and I don't think I could build the same quality of cable for what it cost me to get it from them period.

Good Product

I picked up a 30' TOSLINK for about $40 delivered and found that to be an awesome price. The 30' analog stereo was about $100 delivered, but of great quality.

No there IS a difference. The difference is that at the time I was buying my cables, I was not sure exactly HOW my equipment was going to be layed out in the room, so getting precise measurements for the cable length was difficult. When you go DIY, it gives you an addtional amount of flexibility in that you can precisely measure out how much you need and store the rest for later.

Again, I am not saying BJC is not doing their business well, and I'm certainly NOT saying I can build a cable as well as they can, for heaven's sake.

I'm just saying I can get something from lowes or homedepot that's cheaper and performs just as bloody well and you'd be hard-pressed to prove me wrong over the small cable runs that I have in place.

Blue jeans is great when you need exact lengths and want a nice finish. If you're going for all out cheap westlake electronics will sell you Bleden wire for next to nothing.

thanks

i ordered my cables today and the people at blue jeans were very helpful with my application and needs. i think that spending 300-500 per meter on speaker cable is crazy, unless maybe i was using very end equipment with revel speakers and separate monoblock mark levinson amps, but i am not. it seems to be, although a newbie, that alot of what i read about special cables is really wild- and audioholics cable review was enlightening to me, and somewhat scary considering what LOTS of companies are charging for their SPECIAL Cables. i have a biwire application and did not want to use a jumper-it seems that if i was to spend a great deal of money on speaker cables then use a jumper, wouldnt that take away the benefits of using an expensive cable in the first place! LOL!
but blue jeans helped me out and i am happy with them and their price points are pretty good.
