Lazy Sunday here and I am watching a bunch of DIY shows today cause there is nothing else on. They had just built up a guys home theatre and I was amazed at how they were not taking any kind of "audio science" in to consideration during their build. I wish there were documentaries or a show on that went through different types of equipment how to build a theatre and all types of stuff like that. Does anyone know of a documentary on Netflix or anything that covers this kind of thing?

If we had that there would be no reason to come here and ask each other for advice and such ;)
We need this place, there's no place like home, :D

I'm amazed at how little these shows know about...anything.

Clearly that Extreme Makeovers show has a HUGE budget...but apparently they don't spend a dime of it on any consultants. I remember one family had a kid who was interested in space, and so they bought this computer controlled telescope and mounted on the roof, and set it up so that it could be controlled from the kids bedroom...

...meaning it was just sitting there, mounted on the roof. Completely exposed to the elements. And the computer control just means that the 'scope moved to the right location. If you wanted to see anything, it would entail climing up and perching on top of the roof. Great job guys!

That's my tangent...and no, I don't of any appropriate TV shows that actually deal with acoustics in a knowledgeable way, either.

I think it's probably a bit too esoteric for the average audio oriented Holmes On Homes viewer but a show like that might be fun. The problem is that it would degenerate into either The HTIB Show, or become little more than a marketing platform for the most over-priced and expensive gear on the planet. Sort of a Home Theaters Of The Mega Rich And Clueless. ;)

There are audio only home theater podcasts including the one that Audioholics used to host and the one on TWIT.

Seriously, I have no life.
If they worried about science and the details that matter, they wouldn't be able to drive some people crazy because of it. I don't know how many times I have seen someone do something wrong or say something that they should remember from any math class, 5th grade through high school. One of the shows recently had someone building a cabinet for outdoor grilling and as he installed the edge to the top, he said he was mitering the corners at a 20 INCH angle. WTF is that?
