Would you suggest the Onkyo 505 or the 605

I am new here, and have began looking for a home entertainment system. I am not huge into very loud sound, but something decent and affordabl.

I have bought a pair of polk r50s because for the price, they sounded good enough to fit my taste. I am currently looking at subwoofers because I like a clear bass, nothing overly boomy.

Anyways, I like Onkyo products. I currently have a ps3, 65" 1080p tv, and hd digital cable. That is all that would be hooked to the receiver with the speakers/sub... maybe a center speaker in the future. The difference in the 505, and 605 is about $170. My question is, do I really need to stretch for the 605? I read up on both, but I am not sure of all the true differences. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome goat, go for the 605. It is better to have the extra power on tap for the dynamic passages in movies.

The TX-SR605 also offers audio processing over HDMI, where as the TX-SR505 does not.

You might want to keep an eye on ShopOnkyo.com for any refurb deals. I was torn as well with price vs features until they ran a heck of a deal at the beginning of December when I got a 505 for $124 (that included shipping). They didn't have anything up there tonight but who knows what they will offer in the future, depending on how long you can wait.

BTW I love my 505 but then again I upgraded from a Pro-Logic system (circa 1994) so it was a major improvement.
