Would upgrading the a better receiver/amp be worth it?

I was throwing away some old junk, and found out my (very)old Stereo had L/R aux inputs, but it is a very large stereo I have no use for. What I want to use are the speakers... I mainly use them for my TV, but also for my computer when I am listening to music. The speakers are old, but are noticeably better then what I have.

The speaker Moden # is: fw-c250/37
Here is the manual: http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/f/fwc25037/fwc25037_dfu_aen.pdf
Specifications are on page 23.

Would upgrading to a better receiver give me noticeable sound improvement?

Is there anyway I could configure my TV or computer speakers to 4.1 surround?
-My computer speakers have a sub, with a single stereo output to connect the speakers, but I have a L/R splitter for it. That i use for my current receiver.

If I were to upgrade i would only want to spend ~$50.

I would also be willing to spend up to $100 if there is anything I could upgrade to (speakers and receiver), if it has a noticeable improvement.

I also have this set https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/MHCEC69IC2_mksp.pdf , but I was planning on selling. I tested the speakers through the fw-c250/37 and the speaker's sounded noticeably worst. (the receiver also has no kind of audio in besides cd and ipod... :( )

$50-100 is not going to sufficient to replace the receiver and get something that will improve on what you already have. If you already have something to give you computer sound, IMHO, just make do with what you have and save up some more.

In the meanwhile, start researching surround sound receivers and related technologies like HDMI, HD Audio formats and the like.

I would just use and enjoy what you have. Just my 2c.

No upgrade is going to improve either of those. Sell one or both or save for a more significant upgrade. Quality speakers make the single largest improvement.

Ok thanks for the replies.

I was just wondering as I am not audio expert. Always wanted some better audio but never had the $$ to drop-on extra equipment, then I stumbled upon this old thing.
I'll probably upgrade to a good system when I have the funds, but for now this is much better then what I had been using.

Just one last question;
is there any cheap, small amps/receivers, with ? The Stereo I am using as the receiver is HUGE (and I only use it for its RCA inputes)! I want something I could fit in my entertainment center. I want something like this Amazon.com: LP-2020A+ Lepai Tripath Class-T Hi-Fi Audio Mini Amplifier with Power Supply: Electronics and would strongly prefer one with a remote, or one that is programmable to a universal remote.
As you guys said, I probably won't get any performance enhancements so If I get a cheap upgrade like that it will be for purely convince.

Sorry for the novice questions! :(

Again, I would like a cheap amp I could upgrade onto. Maybe add some surroud later on? my fuds are low however... I Don't know much about sound quality and most of my music is just 320kb/s.. I have no idea how goood the aux outputs on my cable box are.

also, how much would the cheapest speakerset+receiver cost (but of course efficient, if it's not worth the extra $, screw it.

Thanks a lot community, I've known little to no about audio for years.

My funds aren't extremely low, so I am slightly flexible. I'm willing to go over my budget if it's worth i...

oh, and for the lazy
Speaker set 1 ( made march 1 2001, EXTREMELY old but sounds better)
Specifications for the lazy:

newer, what I think is worst set: audio - Pastebin.com
older, noticeable better but extremely bulky and has tons of features I have no use in using.

Now the much better sounding speakers http://pastebin.com/Zf3XGDqA

If there is no receiver I could upgrade for atleast some surround, I'd be happy I could already connect my computer subwufer to my stereo set

And sorry If I sound dumb! I just want a really cool audio setup and have little knowledge on the subject:)!

BUMP/UPDATE

I have decided I want to use all 4 speakers if possible. I am now in need of a receiver that can support up to 4.1

If there isnt one for 4.1 around $75, I'd like one for just the original 2.. I want one for convince now, not performance. As you guys said, I probably can't improve performance but I want to set this up to my home entertainment system and the receiver now is a bulky old stereo. I'd like to be able to control bass/treble aswell. The Stereo system itself cost $120 new, so it can't be too much for new receiver is it?
