So...I have an old Bose Acoustimass 10 Series 2 surround system that I'm trying to couple with my new Denon AVR 750H and LG OLEG 55" TV. As I understand it, the subwoofer aspect of the system acts as the 'surround' module as well ( wires from the speakers are inputed to this unit and outputed to the avr ). I'm thinking my problems ( unintended avr switching, speakers not working in most avr settings ) result from the Bose module competing with the avr for signal channeling.

Question: Can I take the Bose subwoofer / 5.0 module out of the loop, replace it with a modern, stand-alone subwoofer and wire the cube speakers directly into the avr?

TIA...

Using the Bose as is, you’d need to set the Denon at a 5.1 configuration. Set all five speakers at Large and set Subwoofer to Off. The module will handle the crossover settings for the cubes.

Later Bose setups allowed for direct connection of cubes to an AVR with an LFE connector on the module to connect to the AVR’s Sub pre out.

You could clip wires and connect your current cubes directly to the AVR and use a new Sub. You’d need to set the cubes to Small with a 200Hz crossover in that case.

Seriously, I have no life.
You can use any sub that you want but the cubes will need a very high crossover point. I did this in a boat and used an RTA app on my phone to determine the crossover range and it was higher than 200Hz, more like 250Hz.

If there’s any budget at all, I would start over. As HF mentioned you’ll need a very high XO, and many subs won’t do good that high. Plus, iirc, those cubes are a high ohm load designed to work with the AM module. If you stay at lowers volumes and don’t expect much, it might work ok.
