I am looking at getting a new A/V reciever. I've narrowed it down to the Sony STR-DG800 and the Panasonic XR57K. Can anyone here give me some reviews and or opinions on these recievers? I can get both for under $300 which is well within my buget

People rave about the Panasonic recievers, but I am not sold on digital amplifiers just yet. The ones I have heard have been bright and had sloppy bass control. I personally own a Sony STR-DE597 which was the second from the bottom of it's series I believe. It sounds fine in my small living room and has some decent features. I would imagine the 800 has better and more advanced features than mine. Note the user interface of Sony's receivers can be unruly.

Receiver options

Add Yamaha, Denon, and Pioneer to your receiver list. You should be able to find the Yamaha HTR-5960 for about $300 online. I have a similar model and would recommend it.

I should be receiving a Panasonic XR55 on Wed. I'll let you know how I think it compares to the Onkyo 502 i've been using. I think a lot of the answer to this question depends on which speakers you are planning on using with it. What speakers do you have now?
