I have an older pair of the Boston Acoustics A150. and they don't sound as good as my RBH speakers I bought last year. I was wondering if it is as simple to just replace the drivers with better drivers and and put them in the box, or if the crossover and everything would have to be dealt with.

The speakers has the following:

10" woofer, 3.5" Mid-base / tweeter, & 1" tweeter.

It sounds OK, but I think it could be al lot better with newer drivers. It is about 25 years old. I just hate tossing them. Any suggestions?

Unless you really want to experiment with them as a hobby, toss them and buy new speakers. The improvements in speaker technology in the past 25 years are legion.

Unfortunately, it's not a simple matter of replacing the drivers and keeping the existing cabinet and crossovers.

Your cabinet was designed around certain specific electro-mechanical features of the Boston Acoustics 10" woofer, and the crossover filters were designed to work with those three drivers. Changing the drivers will almost certainly require different crossovers and cabinet. Finding "plug & play" replacement drivers for older speakers is not impossible, but rarely works well.

I'm not surprised you like your RBH speakers better. They're said to be very good. Which model do you have?

Oh, I guess I will put them on the local CL and sell them, or they could be good to use outside during the summer. I have the RBH T2 SEP (L,C,R) 1010 (2 Subs) and the 61 SE for the surrounds. They sound so much better than the speakers I have I can't explain how much better they are. They are fabulous. Thought about upgrading to the reference, but I haven't found a good way to get a kitchen pass.
