Wondering if others notices Network TV audio getting worse? Screechy?

I don't know why, but I have noticed several Network & cable channels audio becoming 'screechy', like they are equalizing the mid-upper midrange, or over-modulating, to maybe sound more 'crisp & hifi', but it is very ugly, those woman do NOT sound like pirates or '50 year 5 packs a day' smokers? :)

I first noticed (or became intolerable) it on KOIN CBS in Portland (did not hear same from San Francisco CBS, 1 week before) but also hear similar 'screechy' audio on CNN, about as bad. I am know noticing it, dang it, on some others too! Zebras everywhere!! :)

Many channels still sound fine, premium channels fine, not really what I would call 'hi-fi' 5.1 or 2.1 but not screechy at least.

Anyone else hear or notice this? OR is it just me or my equipment. ;(

PS: My 5.1 is not a great, articulate system, but it sounds ok still, in my mind it has not changed in sound (ears/brain says same), 7 yrs old, old music sounds the same as when new.

Welcome to the forum!

I haven't noticed that. I get all of my TV from over-the-air broadcasts. Are you watching on cable? I wonder if it's due to compression on the cable company's side of things.

I have heard it via both antenna & Dish sat (KOIN), I first heard it via Dish, thought it their problem, later got a chance to get KOIN cbs via antenna, exactly the same screechy sound.

Did not hear it in Sacramento CBS or San Francisco CBS via antenna or Dish, but CNN only thru Dish sat.

PS: I am traveling in a motorhome, so my AV/5.1 system travels with me, it remains the same.

Gotcha. I haven't been watching TV much this past month or so because shows are in reruns. I'll have to pay attention next time to see if anything sounds different to me. That stuff normally catches my attention right away, so it should be obvious if it's happening here.
