Where are you buying it from? I bought a Samsung HDTV from Circuit city and purchased the warranty and they fixed it when it got hit by lightning. The only thing I didn't like is that any TV over 24" has to get in-home service. This means one day off work so they can come and diagnose it for 20 min. Then another day off work when they get the part in a month later so they can come back to your house and replace the broken part. I personally would have rather taken them the TV, but they said I flat-out was not allowed to do that because it's a 26" TV.
Anyway, did it get the TV fixed? Yes. Did I get it fixed for free? Not if you count 3 missed days at work(one extra day because the 2nd visit, the part was broken in transit). All that because they wouldn't let me take the TV to them. Hell, I carried a 37" LCD tv home in my 1990 Mazda MX-6 2dr a couple weeks ago.
Oh, the slimfit samsungs seem to have some issue with their geometry at the sides of the screen because of the design of the tv and the pinched insides is the best way I can explain it. You may want to get the warranty on that one just because if they geometry is not right, you can return it until you get one that has the correct geometry.
