Wiring question from new member

I am slowly upgrading my system which I purchased years ago.

I did not do any much research before now, and I made at least two mistakes: I was convinced to bi-wire the front and centre speakers and to purchase Monster XP speaker wire and connectors by the vendor.

Is there anything wrong with this, except for the unecessary cost which has already been incurred? I assume that the bi-wiring is not making things any worse than they would otherwise be and that I don't need to replace it.

Also, should I replace the monster wires with lower gauge wire (I can't even determine what the Monster wire gauge is, it looks like about 16 or 18)?

Nah, you're not hurting anything. Monster cable typically isn't bad stuff - it's just way overpriced compared to equivalent wire. I've got some that I bought back in 1998 when I didn't know any better. It's good wire, and I still like it and use it. I just wouldn't buy it again.

Bi-wiring also won't hurt anything. So, don't worry about that seeing as how you've already done it.

Regarding getting thicker wire, I believe that the bi-wiring is effectively doing that for you because you are running parallel conductors. I find the site linked here to be excellent in regards to choosing speaker wire gauges.
