i recently pre wired my home being built. i installed the speaker wire then shopped for an audio package. the audio package i choose has a sub with rca outputs connecting all the speakers. the sells man said they have a converter that converts rca jacks to speaker wire terminals, i looked all over and i can't find this. he said it was a box with the rca jacks on one side and binding terminals on the other that converts the two. anyone have a clue where i can find this?

Thanks

.....Comooney, welcome to Audioholics.com, and how does your audio package sound to you hooked-up with the rca's not using the wire in the walls?....since it was meant to be run with rca's, you might should hear it as such....if you use the wire in the walls, you'll be putting a speaker out in the room that is going to be hit with only a handful of watts, most probably, and that goes along with rca's to speakers.....

.....I suggest hooking up the system using the rca's, with all the speakers close to you, and decide if you want to not worry about the receipt's location....please try that and report back when you can....we care here, and we know Clint's watchin', haha....we work these counters buddy, haha.....

.....Comooney, you're going to have to convert both ends to use the wire in the walls....see what that system sounds like, and then give us a figure to work with on alternatives, please....bravo, you've got wire in the walls, you're moving in the right direction, imo....please get back, and thanks for the visit and post.....

.....edit....Comooney, while you still have that receipt....please report back with how much that system is setting you back....suggestions will probably be made to you for a QUALITY CLEAN system, for what could be the same money, meant to be run on speaker wires, with WATTS....Circuit City and Best Buy brands will probably be suggested.....

thanks for the welcome... :) the speakers i choose have speaker wire binding terminal inputs, so i am good there. the part i am having trouble with is out of the sub to the speakers, out of the sub are rca jacks and i am looking for that converter to convert it to speaker wire. too much money is invested on this wire to just pull it out and install new...

The system you purchased is most likely a home theater in a box, or HTIB. Those little setups for the most part use rca speaker terminals. They were popular on more expensive systems back in the 70's. If you plan on keeping this HTIB, you can simply splice off the rca ends, and wire cap them together to your speaker wire in the walls. You'll void the warranty of the HTIB, so make sure you want to keep it. The rca speaker terminals on your sub are simply a +/- system, where the inside is a plus, and the outside the ground (I may have that backwards-it's been awhile). Again, I'm assuming this is what you have. Report back with a make and model #.

I am assuming the wire out of the surround speaker has a male rca. And you do not want to cut the wire. Well there is this, which is a female rca to a speaker out wire. Here is a link. (mytee cheap way to go, specially with the 18awg. But I am assuming the HTIB speakers already are using 18awg)

.....Comooney, that new house is your wife's joy at this time....call Bose toll-free and tell them what you need....they surely can help....the Bose will sound plenty acceptable, and when Mama ain't happy, bud, nobody air, haha....someone here may still help you find what you need....thanks for dropping by, and maybe the luster of that living room may wear off her in a few years and she may agree to changing things tastefully....it's been a pleasure to wait on you, Sir.....

.....edit....Comooney, I just noticed Brian told you above how to fix your problem....Brian has cubes in every room and should know, haha....why am I not surprised it was Bryan?.....

Cubes (I have no stinking cubes), You've seen my pics. I even have floorstanders with 15" woofers. Now if they were in cubes, it would not be a good bookshelf cube.

Actually if they were in cubes they would be large subwoofers. :)
