I am trying to wire up things for my 7.1 setup into the wall before I panel them, however, currently I have the speaker wires going along with the power lines. I was just wondering if that would interfere with the speaker outputs and that I need to separate the speaker wires away from power line.
YES! The below post is pretty darn right. We try to never run speaker wire with Power wire. And if we have to do it we stay as far away from the power wire as possible. Crossing the power cables at 90 is what we do as well. Also, the elctricians will lay their wire on the rafters and studs. They will typically not tack their wires up unless they have to. If you do not have sheet rock up yet, then you can do all sorts of crazy running of your speaker wires to make sure that they do not run with the power.
Nothing sucks more in a system than a 60hz hum in the system. It will straight PISS you off!
If you have to take the same direction and flow as the power wires. Tack your wires up high. we call it "taking the high road". That way your stuff is seperate from the power wires.
It is better that you do not have your speaker wires in the same chase as the power wires. If the studs are 16" apart you should be able to go on the other side of the stud for your stuff. That way the 2x4 will give you some seperation from the power wire.
I am posting a little drawing to show one of the things I am talking about. The red wire is power, the black is speaker.
