Wiring for a new System

I am a newbie and just getting into the HT thing. There is so much info that is overwhelming. I am currently finishing my basement and wanting to install an HT system. Do not have one but am looking at several. Will post when get down to systems. Anyway, I am wanting to use an RF remote to place my system in a closet so that none of the ocmponents are out in the room. In doing this I have to run wires over to where my TV will be located. I am curious as to what wires I should run. Do I run video component cables, s-video, HDMI or what. Also, should I run optical cables. It is so overwhelming that I am just confused. I am going to place a PVC tube for future runs but if I had an idea about the basics that would be great.

Thanks for any information that you can provide as I start my journey down this perplexing and fun adventure.

Forget the s-video, that's just slightly better than type F coax connection. Use component, dvi or hdmi. I've read where there is no discernable difference between optical and a PCM connection (though it continues to be a point of debate on many forums). The optical has a "coolness factor" to it though.

I think JeffD2 mean coax connection. PCM can be carried by either coax or optical cables.

I used optical and PCM in terms of tranporting the audio signal only. Apologies for not be clearer. The "type F coax" was used in the context of supplying both audio (stereo only) and the video.

TV connections

Unless you plan to use the speakers that came with your TV as part of your sound system, then there is no need to run an audio cable from the receiver to the TV, just worry about the video connection.
Before installing a HDMI or DVI cable, make sure your new TV has this connection.
